Safe Meetup Guidelines — Buurted
Version 1
You are viewing a specific revision. Current version
Effective from 23 September 2026.
Before you meet
Keep the conversation in Buurted chat until everything is agreed. It is both parties’ record.
Agree the price and exact time in the chat, not at the door.
Tell someone where you are going and when you will be back.
Do the photos look generic? Ask for a photo of the actual item.
Where to meet
Daylight and somewhere with people around is best.
The front door or driveway is fine. You do not have to let anyone in, and you do not have to go in.
Something large? Ask the other person to bring someone, or bring someone yourself.
Does it feel wrong? Leave. You owe no explanation.
Paying — as a buyer
Buurted does not handle payments between neighbours. You arrange it yourselves, by Tikkie or cash.
Pay only once you have the item in your hands.
Never pay a deposit to reserve something from someone you have not met.
Be suspicious of anyone who cannot meet, wants it posted, or is in a hurry to be paid.
Never share your bank login, DigiD, card details or a copy of your ID.
Paying — as a seller
Check the payment in your own banking app before handing the item over. A screenshot or confirmation screen on the buyer’s phone proves nothing; those are easily faked.
A Tikkie notification on someone else’s phone is not proof of receipt. Look at your own account.
With cash: count it, unhurried, before handing anything over.
Feeling rushed? That is a reason to stop, not to push on.
Arranging babysitting
Buurted puts you in touch. The arrangement itself you make together, off Buurted.
We do not conduct suitability screening, VOG checks or reference checks for babysitting. Profile ratings, badges, verification indicators and list order are not a guarantee of suitability or safety.
Meet in person first, at your home or somewhere public, before agreeing anything. Never through chat alone.
Ask about experience and for references, and actually call those references.
Want to see a VOG (certificate of conduct)? Ask directly. Buurted does not hold or check them.
Have the sitter shadow you the first time while you are still there.
Write down: times, fee, phone numbers on both sides, a second contact, and what to do in an emergency.
Trust your instinct. If you have doubts, even without a concrete reason, choose someone else.
If you are the sitter: arrange the first time during the day, tell someone at home where you are, and agree the fee and finish time in advance.
Arranging a service or job
Ask the business for its KVK number, insurance and any relevant certification. Business registration and account verification are not a guarantee of professional qualifications, insurance, quality or safety.
Agree the price in advance, and put it in the chat.
Do not pay the full amount up front.
When children are present
Many items on Buurted are children’s items, and children are often there. Keep the handover at the door, and never let a child handle a pickup alone.
If you are between 16 and 18
Meet during the day, somewhere public or at home with an adult nearby.
Involve a parent or guardian in the arrangement.
Do not go alone to the address of someone you do not know.
If something goes wrong
Report the user in the app.
Report theft, threats or fraud to the police. Buurted cannot investigate crimes.
Tell us if you have been to the police.
In immediate danger? Call 112.
When you report a chat, authorised staff may review relevant messages to assess the report. See the Privacy Policy for information about how personal data is handled.
Buurted provides the platform and is not a party to the arrangement you make. Account checks and platform indicators do not guarantee the safety of an item, person or service. This does not exclude Buurted's own obligations under applicable law.
